The Antwerp Smart Zone wants to involve residents and neighbourhood visitors and give them as much information as possible. One of the ways this has been done is through the public screens that have been placed in the Sint Andriesplaats and the Theodoor Van Rijswijckplaats since 2018. Passers-by can find lots of different information there. Not only information about the Smart Zone, but also events being introduced by the neighbourhood itself. The Antwerp Smart Zone also wants to use the screens to appeal to residents who do not have access to the internet or a mobile phone.
However, after a survey of the neighbourhood, it turned out that there was still room for improvement concerning the screens. For example, their usage was not user-friendly enough, and the functionality not utilised optimally.
This is why a process to rework the content on the screens was initiated with the neighbourhood. More than 20 residents and interested parties were brought together in small groups at the end of March 2019 to look for solutions for a better user experience. These insights were also included in the rework of the designs and functionalities.
